Gynecomastia surgery

Gynecomastia is a medical term that describes a mild excess of male breast tissue, which is usually reversible. In itself, it is not a risk factor for the development of men’s breast cancer. It can occur at any age, more often it occurs in two groups: adolescent boys and older men.

The term “gynecomastia” itself means an increase in the amount of breast gland tissue in boys or men, which might be caused by an imbalance of the hormones – estrogen and testosterone. Gynecomastia can also be a side effect of certain medicines, such as antidepressants, antibiotics, chemotherapy, prostate cancer medicines, ulcer or cardiovascular medicines. Illegal drugs, such as anabolic steroids, heroin, or marijuana can also cause gynecomastia.Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. Most adult men with gynecomastia do not report any symptoms. Signs and symptoms of the condition can include: pain, particularly in adolescents; swollen breast tissue; breast tenderness or increased nipple sensitivity.

Gynecomastia is usually a benign (noncancerous) condition. It may be linked as mentioned above to many different causes of hormone changes. In some cases gynecomastia can occur as a result of a significant weight loss in male patients. In many cases, the cause isn’t known. Gynecomastia can cause significant psychological discomfort or unease. Gynecomastia can be removed with the gynecomastia surgery.

Gynecomastia surgery (also known as male breast reduction) is the surgical correction intended for men who have glandular or fat tissue in their breasts. Gynecomastia surgery reduces breast size in men, flattening and enhancing the chest contours. Gynecomastia treatment involves the removal of adipose tissue and breast glandular tissue in men. In some cases, it is also necessary to remove excess or loose skin. If the patient’s body fat predominates, it is enough to remove its excess by aspiration. In the event of a predominance of glandular tissue, the gland is surgically removed. In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola.

Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammaplasty.

Many patients who consider gynecomastia surgery abroad choose KCM Clinic, located in Jelenia Gora, near the Wroclaw region. KCM Clinic offers this procedure to its international patients, and the treatment is performed by the most established surgeons.

Not every plastic surgeon is authorized to perform breast surgery. This should be borne in mind when making decisions about undergoing breast surgery. Make sure to find a board certified plastic surgeon competent in gynecomastia surgery who may evaluate your needs, expectations and discuss your options in order to achieve the best natural results. You should also pay attention to the clinic, in particular the conditions, equipment and medical team. Quality and safety are paramount. Before consulting, please read the consent to the procedure to discuss any ambiguities related to the procedure. Patients qualified for surgery come to the clinic in the morning on the day of surgery. You should be fasting, without food or drink. Remember to take the test results and medicines that you take permanently. Most often, it is recommended to perform a set of about 15 screening tests, such as morphology, blood clotting and sugar levels, but the plastic surgeon will adjust individually which tests should be performed prior to the procedure.

After surgery, the patient should stay in the hospital for 1-2 days. The patient should be able to go to their place the day following the procedure or the same day. After returning home, it is necessary to wear a special surgical corset for about seven weeks. You should not carry weights and do intense physical exercises for a period of about 8 weeks. Avoid sunlight for about six months. You may feel soreness or pain during the first days after the surgery but you will be prescribed analgesics to feel comfortable. The patients may expect swelling and bruising the following days. Most patients go back to work after 5 days to 2 weeks depending on the nature of their job.

For safety reasons, the operation plan is determined individually between the patient and the surgeon during the pre-surgery consultation. Goals and expectations must go hand in hand with real possibilities and safety at the highest level. While rare, there is a chance that you could experience excessive bleeding during or after the procedure. During the gynecomastia procedure, there is the potential for injury to the deeper structures of the breast. These structures can include the blood vessels, nerves, muscles, and your lungs. These injuries may be temporary or permanent. After surgery, you may notice breast and nipple shape changes, as well as alterations to the size and symmetry of your male breasts. All surgeries come with a risk of possible infection. In reality, infection risk remains low in contemporary modern medical facilities. Every precaution is taken to ensure the sterilization of the environment, including all tools and equipment used during surgery. You will also receive gynecomastia surgery recovery instructions for proper wound care while recovering at home to keep dangerous infections at bay. In some cases, surgery can cause you to experience a diminished sensitivity in your nipples. This condition can also affect the skin of one or both breasts. In rare cases, abnormal scars may develop within the skin and surrounding tissues. Many of the gynecomastia surgery risks are similar to the risks of all other surgeries. The fact is that gynecomastia surgery is very safe. Most patients who undergo a gyno procedure have smooth and uncomplicated recoveries.
