The Laryngology Clinic deals with diagnostics, treatment and qualification for surgical procedures performed as part of the Laryngology Department.
Plastic surgery of protruding ears is performed in patients with excessively protruding auricles. The operation is performed for therapeutic and aesthetic indications. The aim of the procedure is to reconstruct the correct shape and position of the auricle.
During the operation, a whetstone or elliptical cut is made in designated places on the skin at the back of the auricle. Then the excess skin is dissected and removed. The operator makes incisions on the cartilage of the auricle and places the sutures that produce the natural corrugation of the auricle. The next step is to sew the protruding auricle shell to the behind-the-ear area, which reduces the angle of stand-off.
A patient qualified for the surgical correction of protruding ears requires prior preparation for the procedure. Initial comments and detailed information on the procedure itself, the method of anesthesia and the course of the operation will be provided to the patient by the attending physician during the pre-procedure consultation visit.
If the patient is a child, the doctor talks to both the child and the parent. Additionally, in the case of general anesthesia or coexisting diseases, it is necessary to perform basic laboratory tests.
Pain symptoms controlled with painkillers occur immediately after the procedure and over the next few days. They may worsen to some extent with strenuous activity and require oral painkillers for the next few weeks. The normal symptom is the appearance of swelling, redness, increased heat and bruising in the operated area, which gradually disappear within 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure. After surgery for protruding auricles, the dressing will be removed on day 1 or 2. The stitches will be removed about 7 days after the procedure. Bath under running water can be taken 2 days after the discharge from the wound has subsided. Return to full life activity usually takes place 10-14 days after the surgery, and to exercise after 6-8 weeks. Postoperative scars can only be sunburned after one year. Until the wound heals, it is necessary to take care of its hygiene according to the recommendations provided by medical personnel.
Do not lie on the wound, stay in positions that compress the wound, perform independent procedures that violate the continuity of the epidermis covering the wound. If the wound becomes wet / dirty, it should be washed with an antiseptic preparation. About 4 weeks after the wounds have healed, start using silicone gels or pressure dressings to prevent scar overgrowth. An elastic bandage should be worn day and night for at least 14 weeks after the operation, and only at night for the next two weeks.
