KCM Clinic provides a therapeutic option in the realm of urological surgery known as endoscopic vaporization of the prostate-diathermy Olympus (TURIS-P).

The prostate gland, known as the prostate, is responsible for the production of a fluid that provides nourishment and protection to male reproductive cells, specifically sperm. Additionally, it facilitates the release of sperm during ejaculation and aids in their transportation via the female vaginal tract.

The likelihood of acquiring prostate disorders, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), tends to rise as individuals grow older. BPH is characterized by an excessive proliferation of cells within the prostate gland, which typically weighs around 20 grams in a healthy state.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a clinical term used to describe non-malignant prostate enlargement, unrelated to the presence of prostate cancer. If left untreated, this illness can result in various complications, such as urinary tract infections, renal impairment, the formation of renal stones, or hemorrhaging.

What are the clinical symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)?

The symptoms associated with this disease include post-void bladder fullness sensation, a compelling urge to urinate, diminished urine flow, dribbling of urine, intermittent urination, difficulties initiating urination, and a heightened need for frequent urination.

Based on statistics provided by the World Health Organization, it has been shown that benign prostate hypertension affects approximately 50% of individuals who are 60 years old, and this prevalence increases to approximately 90% among those who are 80 years old. Prostate cancer, the second most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in Poland, is characterized by atypical symptoms that can easily be mistaken for benign prostatic hypertension. At present, the majority of prostate cancers are identified during the asymptomatic phase. Patients are typically diagnosed either due to the discovery of elevated levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in their blood or as a result of experiencing symptoms related to benign prostatic hypertension, prompting them to seek medical attention.

Which medical professional is responsible for the treatment of prostate disease?
A medical professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the urinary and reproductive systems, particularly those related to the prostate gland, is referred to as a urologist.

Patients experiencing persistent lower urinary tract symptoms despite pharmacological intervention or recurrent urine retention should be referred to a urologist.

One method utilized for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement is endoscopic prostate vaporization, which involves the application of diathermy.

Endoscopic vaporization of the prostate, using the Olympus diathermy technique (TURIS-P) is a surgical method used to treat benign prostate hypertrophy.

Postoperative recommendations

Typically, the patient is discharged on the day of the procedure. The patient is given painkillers for relief. The patient may potentially encounter postoperative discomfort characterized by a little sensation of burning, an increased frequency of urination, or the observation of minimal amounts of blood in the urine. The disease is expected to resolve within a few days following the operation. The typical duration for complete recovery is often between four and six weeks.

Dr. Alam Bouhaouli at KCM Clinic performs the procedure of endoscopic vaporization of the prostate-diathermy Olympus (TURIS-P).
