Treatment of varicose veins of the lower limbs – do you know what options are available to remove varicose veins at KCM Clinic? Phlebology, a field of medicine dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the venous system, has made significant progress in recent years. If we take into account the fact that diseases of the venous system (e.g. thrombosis, varicose veins, superficial phlebitis) affect a large percentage of our society (according to the data of the National Health Fund, there are 200 to 300 new cases of thromboembolism per 100,000 in Poland every year inhabitants), many people will require consultation with a vascular surgeon and surgical treatment.

The most common symptoms of venous insufficiency in the area of the lower limbs include:

  • spider veins, heaviness in the legs, lymphedema, night cramps, itching,
  • burning, pain and
  • varicose veins

The last one, depending on the stage of the disease and location, can be removed thanks to the treatments offered at KCM Clinic.

We have three treatment methods to choose from: removal of varicose veins of the lower limbs (varicectomy, miniphlebectomy), removal of varicose veins of the lower limbs combined with safenectomy (stripping according to Babcock) and sclerotherapy.

Removal of varicose veins of the lower limbs (varicectomy, miniphlebectomy) consists in getting rid of varicose veins by making small incisions in the skin. Miniphlebectomy, also known as venipuncture, is considered a minimally invasive method. Using special tools, the surgeon removes individual fragments of varicose veins and the patient recovers just a few days after the procedure.

Removal of varicose veins of the lower limbs combined with safenectomy (stripping method) includes not only the removal of varicose veins (a cosmetic effect is achieved), but also the removal of inefficient main superficial veins. Safenectomy refers to the classic operation of varicose veins using the Babcock method, thanks to which it is possible to remove both visible varicose veins and the causes of their formation.

The surgical removal of varicose veins of the lower limbs is carried out using the most modern medical equipment, and the techniques used ensure the lowest possible risk of complications and quick recovery for our patients.

Sclerotherapy refers to the non-surgical treatment of varicose veins. This type of procedure consists in the removal of spider veins and selected inefficient veins in the lower limbs by local injection of a vasoclosing solution.

Surgical removal of lower limb varicose veins is performed at KCM Clinic by dr hab. n. med. Grzegorz Kowalski.

The operation is performed under local anesthesia, and in most cases does not require stitches. The surgeon removes the varicose veins from under the skin through tiny 2mm incisions with special micro crochets. This procedure leaves no visible scars. After the procedure, compression therapy is applied to the limbs.

Blood and urine tests are necessary. It is not advisable to shave the legs immediately before the procedure associated with epidermal damage. The patient should be fasting for the procedure (6 hours without food, 2 hours without drink).

Exercise and pressure on the legs should be avoided (for example, by wearing tight pants). On the first day, the patient is supposed to rest with his legs at hip height, every hour the legs should be stretched for a few minutes, by taking a short walk around the apartment.

The indication for surgery is varicose veins of the shunts.
