Laparoscopy is an innovative surgical technique. It was created thanks to the cooperation of experts in medicine, engineering and computer technology. This method allows for a shorter recovery time and a smaller risk of postoperative complications compared to traditional operations.
After conventional kidney surgery, the patient has to be hospitalised for a long period of time due to the large incisions that are made in their body in order to reach the organs. During laparoscopic kidney surgery, instead of those large incisions, the doctor makes a series of small cuts in Your lower abdomen. He inserts a laparoscope through them. It is a wand-like appliance with a camera and a light at the end. The physician uses it to examine the inside of Your abdomen.
During laparoscopic kidney surgery, the doctor can perform a biopsy of suspicious tissue, remove a tumour, or even take away the entire kidney. It is possible with the use of a cutting instrument and tissue retrieval apparatus that is part of the laparoscope. Typically, the physician makes three puncture holes in the patient’s abdomen, each in a size of 5-12 millimetres.
